Need an astronomy expert? I do frequent outreach work in schools, pubs, on the radio, and occasionally even on TV!.
I am a passionate advocate for underrepresented groups in science. In my capacity as a queer disabled woman, I believe it is important to be visible and to share my experiences so that young people from similar backgrounds can see that a career in science is possible. In recognition of this I was awarded a Queensland Museum award for Breaking Barriers in STEM.
We often do public events with small telescopes or even using our professional observatory at Mt Kent. Follow UniSQ on LinkedIn or Facebook to keep up with our events. In the image to the right I am pointing a solar telescope at the Sun at UniSQ Open Day in Toowoomba last year.
The image on the left is from a Wear it Purple Day event at the University of Sydney, where I was part of a panel of queer STEM professionals giving career advice. I was also part of their Breaking Barriers series. A social media series that spotlights USyd alumni from underrepresented backgrounds.
